What is PPC

Pay Per Click is paying for each click that your advert gets. These adverts appear at the top of the Google, Yahoo and Bing search results in the coloured box. They also appear across the internet on different content websites next to text that matches the targeting of the adverts. Pay Per Click is also known as PPC, or Sponsored links or sponsored ads.


PPC is the quickest way to get sales to your website (in our opinion). Campaigns can be live within 15 minutes of activating them and you can be getting enquiries or sales the same day. PPC taps into prime searches, so straight to your target market. 80% of consumers will do an internet search during their consumer journey. Having a presence at the top of Google can massively influence the purchasing decisions of consumers…in your favour!

All in all it is one of the most effective ways of delivering results on an efficient budget.

How to build and manage PPC Campaigns?

  • There are tools available online to help you research the top search terms (keywords) for your industry.
  • Google Adwords Keyword Tool is the most recognised tool that taps directly into Google search data.
  • Once you have researched your campaign you need to categorise into Ad Group, design your ad group adverts, and structured into campaigns.
  • You can load your campaigns into Google using Adwords Editor, and similarly download your Adwords campaigns into excel and upload into Bing.

What Should a Pay Per Click Company Be Doing?

How does it work?

You create an Adwords or Bing Account, select the keywords you want your advert to appear for, create the adverts, and set the campaign live. Simples…maybe.
Once the campaigns are live it starts spending money – each click on an advert will generate a charge, ie Google will charge you, the advertiser, for gaining a targeted visitor to your website after having clicked on an advert.
The cost of each click, or alternatively known as “cost per click” (CPC), will vary depending on a few variables.
Firstly the industry vertical impacts how much the CPC is. For example a CPC for “packaging” keyword is approximately £1, whereas a CPC for “domains” is likely to cost £40 to £60. Secondly,your position on Google affects the cost so the closer to the top you are the more expensive it is.
